Neil Alderson

Independent Transformation Director and Business Advisor. Two decades of making sense of what happens when finance, HR, operations and data pull in different directions.

I’ve spent the best part of twenty years working in the space between functions. Not because I planned it that way, but because that’s where the problems kept turning up.

Examples have shown up in many forms but often I have seen it when Finance couldn’t explain a variance because the HR data didn’t match. Operations redesigned a process without telling commercial, and the downstream reporting fell apart. A programme was six months in before anyone realised the people plan and the technology plan were built on completely different assumptions about headcount.

This can be a common pattern in well-run functions where people are making decisions in isolation and wondering why things are not landing and it is what I’ve built my career around understanding and resolving.  I work across finance, HR, operations, commercial and data, not as a specialist in any one of them, but as someone who sees how they connect and where the disconnection is costing the business.

Neil’s contributions were critical to creating the enterprise data model. Neil also demystified the relationship between people data and finance data enabling clear traceability of cost and revenue in support of our operations and reporting.
